Family Doctor
Dr Ini Obot
MBBCh, MPH, FRACGP, CCFP
Deer Ridge Family Clinic is delighted to welcome Dr. Ini Obot to the team.
With nearly two decades of clinical experience as a physician across the United Kingdom and
Australia, Dr. Obot brings a wealth of knowledge and a compassionate, patient-centred
approach to healthcare.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Calabar, Nigeria, Dr. Obot pursued a
Master of Public Health (MPH) at the University of Sheffield in the UK. He continued his
postgraduate medical training in the Greater Manchester area, gaining broad clinical
experience across a range of specialties, including psychiatry, cardiology, gastroenterology,
respiratory medicine, neurology and stroke medicine, and geriatrics.
His extensive background has fostered a deep understanding of the complexities involved in
providing holistic, individualized care—especially for elderly patients managing multiple
chronic conditions and medications. Dr. Obot has actively participated in and led
multidisciplinary meetings, working closely with allied health professionals to empower
patients with the knowledge and tools needed to stay healthy in the community and avoid
unnecessary hospital visits.
Driven by the increasing burden of respiratory illnesses, Dr. Obot developed a special
interest in respiratory medicine. He worked for two years as a respiratory specialty doctor at
Barrow-in-Furness Hospital in the UK, managing conditions such as asthma, chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, and pleural disorders.
Upon relocating to Australia, Dr. Obot continued his clinical career in general practice and
earned his Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).
His practice is grounded in preventive medicine, with a focus on cardiovascular health and
reducing the long-term impact of chronic conditions.
Dr. Obot is particularly passionate about addressing obesity and its associated health
risks—including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, hypertension, fatty liver disease, and
obstructive sleep apnoea. He partners with patients and their families to develop
personalized chronic disease management plans, identify and manage barriers to success,
and ensure consistent follow-up to monitor progress. He also has a special interest in
diabetes care and sustainable weight management strategies.
With experience in both urban and rural (outback) settings, Dr. Obot is adept at adapting
care to the unique needs of diverse communities. He also applies his training in focused
psychological strategies to support patients with mood disorders while they await specialist
care.
In addition to his FRACGP, Dr. Obot holds Certification in Family Medicine from the College
of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) and is excited to bring his broad clinical expertise to
serve Albertans with dedication and empathy.
